Introductory Guide to the Records of the Palatinate of Lancaster
This guide introduces the vast quantity of documents produced by the Palatinate of Lancaster. These records were previously kept in Lancaster Castle, but are now held at the National Archives at Kew in West London. The records relate to the period during which Lancashire had its own courts of law, independent of the national system of courts, starting in the middle of the fourteenth century and continuing well into the twentieth century.
