Official Boer War Casualty Rolls 1899-1902 : British and Empire Army
Originally published by Authority in Cape Town this database lists the names, regiments, dates, locations and nature of casualty of all Officers and men of the South African Field Force from the outbreak of war, 11th October 1899 to 31st May 1902 and the Natal Field Force from 20 October 1898 to 26 October 1900. Also shown are casualties occurring after the signing of peace.
For the Military Genealogist this official casualty list is a gold mine of information with 54,931 casualties - Officers and men - who were killed in action or died of wounds or disease. Includes those who suffered non-fatal wounds and injuries. Statistical detail for all data fields is easily accomplished, allowing casualties for battles and skirmishes, or the whole (or part) of the war to be analysed unit by unit. The Boer War was one of the bloodiest wars fought by Britain and her Empire prior to the Great War. Soldiers were physically unprepared for the harsh environment and poorly trained for the tactical conditions they faced.
