Reserve and collect

Our online and on site bookshops operate separately. This is why you may sometimes find books on offer at different prices in the two shops or available in only one of these locations. However we understand that some of our customers may find it more convenient to collect their books in person or to pay in the bookshop rather than by credit card online and there is an easy way to do this.

Simply browse our online bookshop, select your purchases by adding to your basket and at checkout select the 'collect from the bookshop' option. You can then collect from The National Archives Bookshop at Kew at a time convenient to you during opening hours over the next five working days.

How it works

  • Choose the book(s) you are interested in, add to the online basket as normal.

  • From the delivery options select the 'collect from our bookshop' option.

  • Enter your details on the reservation form. If you would like to pay by credit card online and pick up from the bookshop don’t forget to enter your credit card details. If you would prefer to pay at the till in the bookshop select “Pay on Collection” on the payment page.

  • You will receive a confirmation email for your purchase please print this off and bring it in with you. Or if you are using a mobile device just have the message available for us to see.

  • Your books will be reserved for you in the bookshop and can be collected during shop hours over the next five working days. We are sorry but books cannot be reserved for more than five working days.

  • Let the assistant know that you are collecting an online order and they will be able to retrieve this using your name. Please note that only books which are reserved online can be sold at the online offer prices.
